Project Based Learning is also known as Problem Based Learning, although there are subtle differences. The Buck Institute for Education has an overview on their site. Where the power of Project Based Learning really takes hold is when it is interdisciplinary involving core subjects (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) and elective courses.
